Shakespeare & co

Shakespeare & Co is a quirky bookshop on the Rue de la Bûcherie on the south bank in Paris. Stepping through the doors into the narrow, twisting, dark corridors gives flight to the imagination and to untold stories. The tangle of rooms is filled with overflowing bookshelves, books stacked on the floor and on the stairs. Comfy chairs hide in quiet corners for losing yourself in a book and music drifts in from the streets below. Old typewriters sit on wobbly tables, so people can leave their messages of friendship, love and loss. New writers, along with the ghosts of famous writers, have walked along the same corridors, browsed the same bookshelves and have breathed in ideas and inspiration. This is a collection of four unique books that echo the voices of writers and musicians. The books have different structures, and include original poems and black and white photographs printed on ‘liquid light’. They have been bound using different traditional bookbinding techniques

“Reading is a conversation — all books talk but a good book listens as well”

— Mark Haddon
